Bush charcoal process drawing

After an epic walk through some fire-affected areas of Manly Dam, I came home with an assortment of burnt pods, bark, leaves and twigs. Each had different qualities of blackness.

This is the beginning of a process diary where I will experiment with drawing techniques using these materials.

This first experiment involved abstract full-hand drawing on thick cotton paper to see what charcoals have more traction. There was no expectation of a particular outcome. The final image seems to evoke a smoke-filled summer day. It made me anxious!
